1-Day-Old Newborn Dies After Being Mauled To Death By Family’s Newly Adopted Pet Rottweiler
A devastated neighbor opened up about the moment that she found a mother clutching her newborn baby moments after he was mauled by their family dog.
The poor baby was covered in blood, said the neighbor.
The baby, who was reportedly born a couple of hours before the incident, was attacked by a 2-year-old Rottweiler at their home.
The incident happened in the Hamilton Suburb of Enderly, which is located on the North Island of New Zealand.
The boy was rushed to the Waikato Hospital with critical injuries, but sadly, he died overnight.
Karen, an Enderly resident, who did not want her last name to be revealed, was one of the first people to go to the scene after the incident.
Karen said that she would be forever hunted by the things that she saw that day.
She rushed over to the scene after noticing some commotion at the end of their street.
She initially assumed that their neighbor’s dog had escaped from their property, but she did not know the severity of the incident.
As she approached the scene, she saw the mother of the baby sitting on the grass verge.
The mother was holding her bloodied infant in her arms.
It is said that the family was waiting for the ambulance to arrive outside their house after the horrible attack.
Karen later informed a local news agency that the dog grabbed the baby when the mother was using the toilet.
The dog is believed to have tried to bury the baby because the little one was covered in a lot of dirt.
Investigations revealed that the dog was a new addition to the family.
The family already had a dog when they adopted the Rottweiler.
Karen said that the Rottweiler escaped the property earlier that day, and she helped return the dog.
Karen met the baby after returning the dog.
The dog was seized by the Hamilton City Council Animal Control Facility.
The Hamilton City Council Animal Control Facility released a statement about the incident, where they said:
Staff collected the dog and it is now secured at the council’s animal control facility. Further decisions regarding the animal will be informed by the ongoing police investigation. This is a traumatic time for all involved and our thoughts are with the families and individuals involved.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the newborn, may his soul rest in peace.
