20-Year-Old Thai Fisherman Finds Whale Vomit Worth $286,755
A 20-year-old fisherman from Thailand has hit the jackpot.
Chalermchai Mahapan, a Thai fisherman, found a massive lump of whale vomit that is believed to be worth around $286,755.
Yes, that’s a lot of money!
The man said that he came across the 7 kilogram lump after docking his bat at Samila Beach, which is located in the southern Songkhla province.
Mahapan found the whale vomit worth $286,755 on January 6 of 2021.
He was out catching mullet when the weather changed and he was forced to return to shore early.
As he was pushing his boat back to the dock, he noticed a white lump in the sand that was being pushed by the currents.
At first he thought that it was massive rock, but upon inspecting, he realized it was something bigger.
At first, the man said he had no idea what it is, and elderly villagers said that it was ambergris, which is the fancy term for whale vomit.
Ambergris is really bad if you smell it, but after it dries out, they get a sweet and long-lasting fragrance.
This substance is heavily used in the perfume industry.
A small piece of the whale vomit was sent to a lab, where they confirmed that it was genuine.
Mahapan is currently waiting for a buyer to buy the ambergris, which he wants to sell at 1,00,000 Thai Baht.
In total, he will get around $286,755 at that price.
The man also said that he is currently not in a hurry to sell the whale vomit.
