The Maharashtra police found 90 dead stray dogs in the Buldhana district earlier with their legs and nose tied with strings.
The remains were found in a forest area on the Girda-Savaldabara Road in the eastern part of Maharashtra last week.
The police said, “More than 100 dogs were found thrown on the road at five locations. Of the 90 dogs were found dead while some were found to be alive.”
The villagers near the forest informed the police about a foul odor coming out in the area.
The police added, “After villagers approached Police Patil (village police official), the forest department was informed. At the spot, officials of police and forest departments found some dogs were alive and freed them.”
The police registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The police are now trying to find the people who are responsible for the horrific act.
The police believe the dogs are stray dogs that were abducted from the city and were killed in the forest while leaving their dead bodies behind.
