Brazilian Priest Brings Stray Dogs Into Church So People Can Adopt Them

A priest from Brazil brings stray dogs into his church so people who attend mass can adopt the poor doggos.

Father João Paulo Araujo Gomes brings homeless animals to his church so families who attend his masses can adopt them.

Father João Paulo Araujo Gomes is the head of the Parish of Santana in the Brazilian City of Gravata and he started to bring stray dogs into his church so he could help them find a new forever home.

Father Gomes said he got concerned after he got to see a lot of stray dogs.

The priest brings the stray dogs into his rectory and brings them during masses.

The poor stray dogs end up sleeping on the altar, and they are petted and doted by his congregation.

Father Gomes said he wants mass goers to see and “fall in love” with the dogs.

Talking about how he got the idea, Father Gomes said he got the idea after offered him cookies.

Father Gomes said he questioned himself.

He said, “if the cookies went quickly, why not the dogs, too?”

Father Gomes added, “Then I began to bring the dogs to mass, with the same hopes of giving them away. In six months, I finished this process. All dogs were adopted. Now I work with street dogs. They sometimes come into the church looking for food and water.”

He continued, “During service, we speak about dogs of the street, about how to respect and protect them. The church also helps with a castration project (to limit the number of stray dogs).”

Father Gomes also helps dogs that are victims of health problems and violent encounters with people or owners.

Thanks to the amazing efforts of Father Gomes, the number of stray dogs in his area has decreased drastically.

Believe it or not, Father Gomes also fell in love with the dogs, and decided to adopt for himself too.

Father Gomes ended up adopting 3 dogs.

The amazing father said the dogs follow him everywhere and even sleep with him during night times.

Thanks for your outstanding work father, this is what religion is about!
