Cooper, a Yorkshire Terrier, has been put down after she was hit by a large package that was tossed over a fence by a FedEx delivery driver in Venice, California.
Cooper had to be euthanized after sustaining life-threatening injuries to her lungs and liver.
Kieko Napier and Mitchell Galin, the owners of Cooper, said they found Cooper lying in a pool of blood in their yard.
The poor pooch was crushed by the large package.
Cooper was enjoying the sun in their house’s backyard when a FedEx employee decided to toss a large package over their fence.
The large package landed directly on her top and crushed her on the spot.
After finding Cooper, the couple rushed the dog to a nearby veterinary clinic.
The doctor at the clinic said the dog’s liver and lungs had been severely injured.
Kieko and Mitchell decided to have Cooper put down a day after finding out the extent of her injuries.
The couple is now taking the matter to FedEx, and are asking them to take action against drivers from taking shortcuts when delivering items.
Napier said, “The package was so heavy, should it have struck one of us, it would’ve caused damage – very very severe damage,” adding that their grandchild often plays outside.”
Napier added, “I feel they need to say they’re going to institute a corporate-wide mandate that drivers cannot throw packages; that’s what I want to hear. I don’t want to hear we’ll look into it.”
After finding of the incident, FedEx said they are going to take a close look at the incident and extended their sympathies to the affected family.
In a statement that was released by FedEx, they wrote, “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the pet involved in this incident.”
They added, “We take this matter very seriously and are working directly with those involved to determine the circumstances behind this event. Based on the outcome of our investigation, we will take the appropriate action.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Cooper and the poor pooch.
