A dog who was once referred to as “broken dog” couldn’t stop smiling these days.
Sanford, who was once called “broken dog”, couldn’t stop smiling after he realized that he was being rescued.
Karen Velazquez, the foster mother of Sanford, said the pooch is the happiest dog she has ever met in her entire life.
Karen said, “I am presently on my 52nd foster, and I can genuinely say that I’ve never had anyone as jovial as him.”
She added, “He looks at me in a way that no other animal or human has ever looked at me, including my own pets. Essentially, the only time he is not smiling is when he is asleep or eating.”
Earlier this year, Sanford was rescued by animal control after being hit by a car.
The accident left him unable to walk, and after further investigation, the rescuers found a bullet wound in his right hind leg.
Sanford was brought to a small municipal shelter in Dallas, Texas, and stayed with them for around 7 days.
Unfortunately, that shelter was short on resources, so Sanford did not get any medical treatment under the shelter.
A volunteer from the Dallas DogRRR, a local rescue group, saw Sanford at the Shelter in Dallas.
Kerry Anechiarico, the executive director of the Dallas DogRRR, said, “He was physically broken … and when the volunteer went to see him, he didn’t really make any effort to come and say hello,”
Kerry added, “It’s almost like he had given up, and he was just waiting for his time to come.”
But the biggest thing happened when Sanford went into foster care.
Velazquez said, “He came to my home on May 1, just a few days after he was released from the hospital.”
Velazquez added, “He has been all smiles ever since. I think the minute he came to my home, he realized he was in a safe place.”
Velazquez named Sanford as Sanfee, and she said that her pooch likes to spend his days eating home-cooked meals.
They also go for daily walks and play with other dogs.
Sanford is 10-years-old, but Velazquez says he acts like a younger dog.
Sanford is still finding a forever home.
Anechiarico said, “He’ll be a great family dog”
She added, “He’ll get along with other dogs and all humans. He even does well with kids. He’s the perfect companion dog that you can come home to.”
She continued, “He’ll wag his tail and greet you, and he’ll just keep you company for the rest of the day. He’s just a happy-go-lucky dog now.”
