Dogs Are Visiting A Seal Sanctuary So They Could Cheer Them Up During Coronavirus Lockdown

A group of dogs has reportedly been visiting a seal sanctuary so they could have company and they could be cheered.

The staff at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, which is near Cornwall, says that they usually have around 100,000 people each year visiting their center.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, no one had been visiting the sanctuary, leaving the animals lonely, sad, and isolated.

In a bit to keep them engaged, the staff had been bringing their dogs to work with them.

And it did do the job.

Sharing some amazing, adorable, and absolutely amazing images from the visit, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, said:

With the Sanctuary having no guests walking around, our animals have definitely noticed the difference. The team have been working around the clock to provide lots of extra enrichment and fun for the animals to keep them healthy, happy and entertained With ideas running out, our team decided to bring their dogs in to say hello to the seals and to remind them of what it is like when the Sanctuary is open. The animals were very intrigued to see dogs again on site and enjoyed interacting with them.

Not only that, but the staff of the zoo had also been using music to keep them companied too.

The spokesperson of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary said:

The team have also been playing music over the speaker system to help to keep the residents calm and happy. This follows research conducted at the Sanctuary by student Mati Skerrit, in 2017. She found that playing classical music to our California sea lions decreased anxious behaviours and increased time spent playing and swimming.

Even with this good news, there is something bad happening.

The staff of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary is having a hard time meeting the monthly needs of the animals and its workers.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the staff and the zoo are out of money, considering the fact that they make their money out of the guests that come at the Seal Sanctuary.

The staff of the Cornish Seal Sanctuary has set up a fundraising page to help them pay the £23,000 it costs to keep the animals living and happy.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary said:

With the Sanctuary still being closed, and with no certain opening date, we are struggling without the vital revenue from our guests. We are now entering our third month without guests, and need your support more than ever.

If you are one of the kind ones out there that are considering donating some money and helping the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, you can do so by clicking here.

So far over £28,127 have been raised by the group.

The post that was made by the group said:

It costs £23,000 a month for our dedicated animal care team to feed, provide daily care, essential medicines and equipment to our Cornish Seal Sanctuary’s resident animals. As we now enter our second month closed, we need your support more than ever.

Let’s all share this and donate some money to the sanctuary.
