A doctor is currently being hailed as a hero for saving a dog after its leash got caught in a moving elevator in Florida.
2 days before the world celebrated the New Year, a Florida doctor saved the life of a dog.
Dr. Mohammad Awad, the doctor in the video, was coming home and saw a woman and her pooch in the lobby in front of the elevator at Olympus Harbour Island Apartments in Tampa.
The video shows the dog’s leash getting caught in the doors as the elevator moved, causing the animal to be lifted off the ground.
In an interview with WFLA, an NBC affiliate, Dr. Awad said, “I dropped all my food on the ground. I tried to break the leash open as hard as I can — I tried, I tried, I tried.”
He added, “You can see in the video: The first time, I couldn’t do it, it was just too hard.”
After freeing the dog, Dr. Awad said the dog gasped for air, showing signs that its neck was tightly gripped by the leash.
Talking about the incident, Dr. Awad said he got off his last shift and had stopped by his parents’ house to get some dinner and was coming home when he saw the woman and the dog walk off the elevator.
Dr. Awad said that he saw the doors close and that the leash seemed tight.
Dr. Awad said, “In one or two seconds, I already knew what was going to happen.”
Dr. Awad added, “Right when that happened, the dog launched into the air, literally.”
After Dr. Awad saved the pooch, he said the dog was shaking.
Talking about the owner, Dr. Awad said the pooch was distraught.
Dr. Awad said, “I’m only a human physician, but I went to go assess the dog and examined it, and the dog seemed OK.”
Dr. Awad, a doctor of internal medicine, added, “But it was just a crazy situation.”
The pooch survived the incident.
