Experts Left Stunned After Finding 17 Headless Sharks With Their Tails Cut Off On A Beach In Chile

Experts in Chile were left stunned after they found 17 headless sharks with their tails cut off on a beach along with rubbish.

The sharks, which have been identified as shortfin mako sharks, were found in the port city of Antofagasta, which is located in Chile.

The news was made public on November 9, 2020, after a video was shared with the public.

Antofagasta Environmental Regional Ministerial Secretary Rafael Castro released the news with the public along with a video.

In the video, the sharks could be seen piled on top of plastic bags, tires, and other rubbish.

Carlos Bustamante, a professor, said that sharks and their tails have high value in markets.

Discarding shark carcass in public is illegal in Chile.

The professor examined the sharks at the scene.

The sharks that were found at the scene were not fully grown and were still in a very “considerable size”.

Carlos went on to say that he is confused on why the creatures were dumped.

The authorities are trying to found out who carried out such horrible crimes in the area.

Locals fishermen are believed to have carried out the horrible attacks.

Samples of the sharks have been taken in order to track down the people that are behind the horrible attack.

Carlos called the illegal dump on the beach an environmental disaster.

The shortfin mako shark is commonly killed and hunted for their meat and for sport.

The shortfin mako shark is one of the fastest swimming fishes in the sea on our entire planet.

They are not that big and are strong. They are capable of doing acrobatic jumps out of water.

These sharks are currently listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in the Red List of Threatened Species.
