Hunted Down And Shot: 14 Horses Found Dead In Eastern Kentucky Woodland

14 horses were found dead in an eastern woodland in Kentucky in an apparent mass animal hunt shooting.

A 1-year-old foal was shot in the face, 2 pregnant horses miscarried after they got hit by the bullets.

Initially, authorities were offering over $1500 for information that leads to the arrest of the people who are responsible for the horrible acts.

The reward is now $5000.

John Hunt, the Sheriff of the Floyd County, said the dead bodies of the horses scattered across the area alone, in pairs, or in groups that consist of 3 to 4 horses.

Sheriff Hunt released a statement about the incident.

The Sheriff said, “It’s a very cruel act of somebody who just apparently had nothing else to do or whatever.”

The Sheriff continued, “Just to go back on a strip job and shoot down horses who were — one of them obviously was feeding, had grass in its mouth.”

Sergeant Kevin Shepherd reported that a house owner, who only had 5 animals on the hill, found 21 dead horses.

The rescue teams were called in to find the dead animals, but due to heavy rain, a search party was stopped.

Dumas Rescue is coordination volunteers in searching for the area.

Tonya Conn, the President of the Dumas rescue, said there was a herd of at least 35 horses in the area.

Tonya said, “You can see in the pictures that these horses were running.”

Tonya added, “They have ran in different directions. They’ve scattered. They’ve fallen dead at different directions.”

Last year, Tonya and her group removed 7 horses that accidentally entered the Daniels Creek after coming off the hills and disrupted the community below.

Megan Globe, a resident in the area, said the horses that were killed in the mass shooting were part of a community.

Globe said people would go up the hills to feed them and to check if they are alright.

Residents in the area said the horses were friendly and would walk up to you if they see you in the hills.

A veterinarian has been called in to conduct a necropsy, so authorities can know the cause of death of the animals.

Neighbors and authorities are calling out people with information about the incident to come forward.

A $5000 reward has also been set for the person who can provide information that leads to the arrest of the people who are responsible for the horrible acts.
