Neglected Dog Ate His Own Tail After Being Abandoned By “Busy” Owner In Dirty Kennel

A poor neglected dog tried to eat their own tail after they were found abandoned in a dirty kennel in Manchester, England.

Rodney, the dog, was found locked inside a wet and dirty kennel in a back garden.

The discovery was made after an estate agent went to the house so they can carry out an eviction.

They ended up contacting the RSPCA.

When the dog was found, it had chewed a part of their own tail.

The emaciated dog was taken from the property in Huyton, Liverpool, to the RSPCA Greater Manchester Animal Hospital.

The bones of the animal were protruding, their tail had severe damage, and had sores on their legs.

The tail had reached a point that it had to be amputated.

The RSPCA’s Warrington, Halton, and St. Helen branches are currently looking for a forever house for the dog.

Alana Bibby, the welfare team leader, released a statement about the dog.

They said:

Rodney is such a jolly and happy chap – you wouldn’t know he had such a bad start in life. He has come on great in our care – and he loves people. Poor Rodney was so stressed with being left on his own for such long periods of time without interaction that he chewed his own tail and had to have it amputated halfway up. He now has half a tail but still enthusiastically wags it. It seems he is keen to make up for lost time as we believe he was left in a kennel for long periods of time and has probably never lived in a home.

Rodney is amazing with other dogs too!

Pamela Bird, an RSPCA Inspector, said in a statement that the owner of the abandoned pet dog was traced.

The owner agreed to hand the dog to the charity.

They said in a statement:

He said he had fallen on hard times and was working away so he would come back and feed him every couple of days but the rest of the time he was left in his kennel. I am just pleased he is enjoying life again and not left outside in a kennel with no company for days on end. He’s a lovely and affectionate dog who deserves the best of home.

You can contact the branches mentioned above if you want to help the dog get a forever home.
