Semi-Truck Carrying 1,738 Piglets Overturned In Iowa Allowing Them To Break Free

A truck full of piglets overturned on an interstate in Iowa on Thursday, allowing all 1,738 pigs to rush out.

The accident caused the rush-hour traffic to slow down as authorities had to rush in an clear the wreck or the piglets.

The semi-truck was carrying 1,738 pigs and was traveling on I-35 East in Des Moines when it tipped over on an off-ramp.

Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla said, “He was traveling just a little too fast for that ramp.”

Part of the trailer broke open and it allowed the animals to escape.

Sgt. Dinkla said, “There were pigs that were running literally all over the interstate and all over the ditches.”

Around 1 dozen people from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa came to help capture the loose pigs and get all the piglets out of the area.

It took about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get the piglets into a new vehicle.

Some piglets had to be euthanized at the scene.

The accident happened around 3 pm.

The Department of Public Safety announced that it was cleared at 6 pm.
