A pet therapy goat that went missing from a property in Northland in December last year has been found and has been reunited with a depressed cow.
Peaches, the goat, formed an unlikely friendship with a cow, who is depressed by the way.
The pet cow belonged to the Maungaturoto Hotel.
The cow, Bunter, was left lonely after the death of a fellow cow a couple of months earlier this year.
Joe Robin, a hotel caretaker, said that Peaches was introduced to the cow as a part of an effort to lift the spirits of the cow.
Robin said:
After Rosie passed away Bunter got really depressed and we heard that goats were good therapy, and there was a lady who was willing to gift Peaches to us. As soon as Peaches arrived in the paddock, Bunter was a different cow, running around everywhere.
After Peaches was introduced to Bunter, the cow started to eat again.
However, the happy friendship was stopped after Peaches got stolen.
Luckily, Peaches was found in a group of goats on a local property.
Robin said:
One, in particular, was alone and was a lot whiter than the rest. We watch a lot of CI (Crime + Investigation), so we did our own investigating.
She said that local police looked into the matter and Peaches was soon on her way home to the arms of her best friend, Bunter.
The Northland Police issued a statement after Peaches went missing.
They said that a burglary at a Maungaturoto property was investigated after the owner’s goat was stolen.
They said:
Police didn’t kid around and goat hold of CCTV footage and spoke with a number of people.
Thanks to the investigation Peaches was found at a property nearby and was returned.
No action was taken against the owner of the property where Peaches was found in.
Peaches has been reunited with Bunter and the owner has taken steps to make sure that she does not go missing again.
The owner has installed reinforced and electrified fencing around the paddock.
