A dog is best friends with a dolphin and the best thing about their friendship is that they play together in the ocean!

In 2013, a 9-year-old Spaniel named Zyzz was aboard a boat in the waters of the Turks and Caicos Island when the pooch noticed a wild dolphin swimming near their vessel.

This happened as the owners of Zyzz were enjoying the crystal clear ocean and amazing sunshine.

Most dogs are scared of animals that they have never met, but this one was so natural that the 2 animals have become best friends.

Destiny fulfilled?

Jojo, a Bottlenose dolphin, and Zyzz have spent hours and hours swimming and playing with each other in a span of 7 years.

The best thing about this story is that the daughter of Jojo also joins the best friends in playing around.

30-year-old Mark de Fraine, the owner of Zyzz and a business owner on the island, shared the story of how the animals met.

Mark said:

They met for the first time when we were anchored up floating and snorkelling around the boat. Jojo pulled up whilst Zyzz was out with us and Zyzz immediately got excited and ran to the back of the boat to check Jojo out. Jojo has been known to play with other dogs so was excited to see Zyzz jump in and they just began circling each other and kind of playing a game of chase.

But 7 years is 7 years.

Because of the dog’s age, the 2 could not enjoy as much time like they used to do.

Zyzz is a bit older now and does not have a lot of energy, but he does gets happy when he sees Jojo, said Mark.

Mark went on:

They always get so excited to see each other and you can see the both of them speed up and start circling and getting excited to meet – Zyzz can often see Jojo from the boat so he gets excited first. Jojo comes right up to the back of our boat and pokes his head out of the water to see if Zyzz is standing there. Zyzz and Jojo get to play whenever we take Zyzz out on the boat with us on our days off.

Mark also said that Zyzz has an ear infection, so he does not get to go out as much often as he wants too.

However, when he gets on the boat, Jojo shows up and the 2 spend a lot of time swimming around in the open waters and playing with each other.

When Zyzz gets tired of playing around, Jojo waits around the back of the boat so the dog could catch his breath.

After recovering, Zyzz would jump right back into the water!

Dreamer, the daughter of Jojo, is also playful and waits for Zyzz to come and play with her too.

Talking about Dreamer, Mark said:

Dreamer is even more energetic than Jojo and it’s awesome watching them play together as she jumps out of the water and splashes Zyzz. Jojo often sits back and lets the two of them play when she’s around. She is very friendly and is never aggressive with Zyzz. Occasionally Zyzz swims quite far from the boat as he forgets he isn’t a dolphin, but he is very good and when I call him he turns around and heads back to get his breath back.
