‘Udta Punjab’ is the movie that has made headlines for all wrong reasons since its trailer was released. The film is directed by Anurag Kashyap and it is about the drug abuse that emerges in Punjab. But the film has run into a roadblock with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The censor board suggested 40 chops to receive an A certificate.
The makers took their film to the revising committee, but here the CBFC has ordered 89 cuts along with the word Punjab in the title. Director Anurag Kashyap expressed his anger on social networking handle and said there is no sense of freedom in the country.
Anurag Kashyap has now urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the issue with his interesting tweet that reads: “@narendramodi UDTA Punjab”. Anurag Kashyap had said that even a single cut would take away the essence of the film.
@narendramodi UDTA Punjab

The 43-year-old filmmaker’s tweet came after the Censor Board had purportedly raised objections regarding references to word Punjab in the title following with some changes.
The director was disappointed and posted a series of tweets.

The Bollywood film fraternity also took to their social media handles to rally behind ‘Udta Punjab’. Bollywood celebrities like Karan Johar, Mahesh Bhatt, Hansal Mehta, Soha Ali Khan and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal came in support to Anurag Kashyap and urged all the film-makers to come together to protest against the CBFC.

If instead of #UdtaPunjab they had called it ‘Girta Punjab’, perhaps, Censor would have cleared it as a realistic movie. #UdtaPunjab
