New Delhi: The ashes of the former prime minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee will be immersed in different rivers across the country. To begin with, a part of it will be first immersed in river Ganga at Haridwar tomorrow, the BJP party said.
The process of ceremonial immersion in the city of Ganga will be attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttarkhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat among many others, a BJP leaders told reporters.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee, considered to be one of the most popular leaders in India, died on Thursday. He was 93 and was reported to be undergoing urinary tract infection treatment. His last rites were done yesterday with full State honours at the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal located in Delhi.
As after this, an all-party prayer meeting is slated to be held on August 20 apart from another meeting to be held in a similar way in Lucknow on August 23 for the BJP leader, Mr Yadav said.
The Lucknow prayer meeting is to be attended by home minister and Uttar Pradesh chief minister apart from the relatives, he added, and said that the ashes after the cremation are also to be immersed in the Gomati river.
Delhi’s prayer meeting will see leaders from various political parties along with other noted citizens, Mr. Yadav said.
“His (Vajpayee’s) ashes will be immersed in various sacred rivers across the country and the ‘asthi kalash’ taken to all the districts headquarters and state capitals. Prayer meetings will take place in the state capitals, district headquarters and at the panchayat level,” he added.
Apart from that, the party of BJP also expressed its concern for the people of Kerala who are currently undergoing hardship due to the floods and rains and assured that the party workers will reach out to each and every household in all those affected areas of the Kerala state to work for rehabilitation efforts.
As of now, the party is working to collect relief materials from all over the country, while the units in the neighbouring states of Kerala are trying to send teams of doctors for the flood ravaged areas of the state, BJP national secretary P Muralidhar Rao said.
“The BJP is with the people of Kerala,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the home minister had already announced an assistance of Rs. 500 crore and Rs. 100 crore respectively.
