A 7-year-old boy from Georgia was rushed to the ER after he swallowed on of his AirPod, which are wireless headphones made by Apple.
Kiara Stroud, the mother of the boy, gifted her 7-year-old boy, QJ, a pair of Apple AirPods for Christmas 2019.
3 days after the gift was given to QJ, he accidentally swallowed one of it after holding it inside his mouth.
Luckily, QJ’s mom was not far away from him when he swallowed it.
Kiara rushed QJ to the hospital, where doctors and staff took X-rays to find where the earphone was at.
Doctors found the headphone sitting just below is his ribs.
During an interview with WSB-TV, Kiara said, “We actually saw it because it has metal in it, so we could see it in the X-ray and I’m like, ‘This boy really swallowed his AirPod!’”
Kiara also shared the incident on Facebook.
She said in the post, “I can’t make this up. My child, my child. Thanks for all of the prayers.”
She added, “We’re home. No more AirPods for this kid.”
Another funny thing about the incident was that the doctor who was looking at QJ’s case didn’t know what an AirPod was.
Kiara said, “She was like, ‘An AirPod? You know, it’s really unique. I never really heard of this,’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, it’s a wireless headset,’ and she was just amazed.”
The good thing for QJ was that his mom didn’t get angry at him for the incident.
Kiara said she didn’t yell, curse, and ask what happened.
Kiara wanted to make sure the incident served as a lesson for QJ and tried to stay calm throughout the incident.
Kiara said QJ felt bad and was scared.
She explained, “He already felt bad. He was scared and nervous. We let him know that everything was going to be OK, stayed calm, and it helped him to relax so that the doctors could do their jobs.”
QJ left the hospital with the earphone still inside his stomach.
The doctors said the earphone will eventually pass down naturally.
Talking about his fears, Kiara said QJ is somehow concerned about the earphone inside his stomach if it got connected to his phone.
Kiara said, “He was like, ‘Mom. I don’t want my phone… I don’t want to be near my phone. I don’t want it to connect to my phone and start playing music.’”
I would too QJ, I would think the same thing.
As a precaution, Kiara said she won’t earphones to her son again until he gets older.
