Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that there is a need to protect the last remaining forests of the state which lost about 13 per cent of nature land. Now Bangalore is all getting ready to World Environment Day celebrations. “We have to work together to protect the environment,” he said.
B Ramanath Rai said the state would launch a “Koti Vruksha Andolana” from 2nd July to 10th with all other departments support. “This initiative is part of the state forest department’s target of planting 8 crore seedlings across the state this year,” he added.

Karnataka forest department organised an event where 1000 trees were planted at Mandur as part of world environmental day celebrations. At Basavanagudi about 100 trees were planted and several trees at Institute of Wood science and Technology, Aranya Bhavan and at MNMIT campus in Banashankari. School children from BCR public school planted trees at S V Sundarajan.
In Visveswaraya Technological Museum on Kasturba Road a painting competition was held and a poster competition on noise air, food and water pollution was displayed by 8 – 14 yr old children at Marigowda Memorial Hall Lalbagh.
The yettinhole project held an exhibition to show photographs focusing on the environment by photographer Sudhir Shetty at Chitrakala Parishath.
