The Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi is always in the news for one or the other reasons. It might be about his pictures going viral or getting a seat in the sixth row at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi or commenting on GST or uploading a video of his pet dog.
However, this time, he has made the headlines for not so good reason and this is where the opposition has got the time and attacked him. Rahul Gandhi is currently in Meghalaya all set to start the election campaign as the state is going for elections soon.
On the death anniversary (Jan 30) of Mahatma Gandhi, a musical program ‘Celebrations of Peace’ was organized and Rahul attended the program wearing an expensive black jacket. And the cost of the jacket is estimated to be nearly Rs 70,000.

Thus, the Meghalaya BJP leaders and other representatives came up with the information about the jacket as their official Twitter handle tweeted saying Rahul’s photo from the function paired with original jacket and price. They wrote,
“So @OfficeOfRG, soot(pun intended!)-boot ki sarkar with ‘black’ money fleeced from Meghalayan State exchequer by rampant corruption? Instead of singing away our woes, you could have given a report card of your inefficient govt in Meghalaya! Your indifference mocks us!”

The jacket is two-in-one down puffer from Burberry, which is a British luxury fashion brand. On one of the e-commerce website, the cost of the jacket was listed as Rs 68,145.

Sanghis are falsely accusing Rahul Gandhi for wearing Rs 70,000+ jacket. He actually bought it from Pappu Garments, Palika Bazaar for just Rs 300. Here is the proof. pic.twitter.com/DrczPhvrO1

Rahul Gandhi in a thousand dollar Burberry quilted jacket. Reminds me of Sonia Gandhi’s sable coat which was refitted by Fendi. Self-validation by @OfficeOfRG of his cheesy “1% of India’s population gets 73% of its wealth” comment. #PakoraTales pic.twitter.com/xJ0eRcjsX5

Congress who always cry @narendramodi ki sarkar to
suit aur boot ki sarkar but their leader Rahul Gandhi is wearing Burberry’s $995 (64000RS approx) jacket. 😰@TajinderBagga @PMOIndia pic.twitter.com/5OyM1Mn3UA— Priya Kulkarni (@priyaakulkarni2) January 30, 2018
However, the ruling party’s tweet was in retaliation to Rahul Gandhi’s “suit boot” jibe at PM Narendra Modi, who worn a monogrammed suit during a meeting with US President Barack Obama in 2015. The base price of the suit at an auction was Rs 11 lakh, and it was sold for Rs 4.31 crore.
The Congress president was in Shillong to kick off the election campaign of the party in poll-bound Meghalaya. The polling for the 60 Assembly seats would take place on February 27 along with Nagaland. The results would be declared on March 3.
