While the private telecom players such as Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are constantly pushing themselves into gaining new customers for their services, BSNL has launched a new offer to promote the number of mobile data users in the country.
Yes, the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Friday announced that it will provide 1GB free data to those who have BSNL connection but are not using the company’s GSM data services.
In a statement here, BSNL said it has “decided to give a special free offer for smartphone users to promote digital India drive and to increase internet users in prepaid mobile services”.
The state-run company said in a statement, according to PTI.
“On pan-India basis, BSNL offers 1 GB free data for the smartphone users who are not using BSNL GSM data services. The intention of this offer is to promote number of internet users in BSNL network,”
The move is also seen as an attempt on BSNL’s part to counter Reliance Jio’s raining offers. Earlier this month, the company had announced a new internet plan under which it will provide 2GB data a day for Rs 339 per month. This is double the data offered by Reliance Jio the plan also includes unlimited voice calling on its network.
BSNL says it has introduced these plans to compete with Reliance Jio and other private players in the telecom industry. With Rs 339, users will get 2GB data per day and in a month, the consumer will get 30 GB data and 25 minutes free call per day. After consumption of 25 minutes, a levy of 25 paise per minute will be imposed.
