Cambridge Analytica Update: KC Tyagi’ Son Of Janata Dal (United) Denies Links With Data Firm

New Delhi: With the recent news about Janata Dal being involved with data analytics firm, Cambridge Analytica, the son of Janatal Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi denied having links with the data firm.

KC Tyagi owns a data analytics firm, Ovleno Business Intelligence, and according to the news, his company had links with the UK-based Cambridge Analytica. The company was recently accused for alleged breach of privacy rules in the US and Europe during the US 2016 elections and Brexit.

The recent statement by Amrish Tyagi comes a day after his father too denied having any connection to the UK-based firm. The latter was alleged to have used the services of data consultancy firm SCL Group whose sister company is the UK-based Cambridge Analytica.

“…Any work of any nature, if any, undertaken by CA cannot be read against OBI. We would like to make it clear that OBI was never associated with CA,” Amrish Tyagi said in a statement. “At the time of its incorporation neither of its directors had undertaken any work of political nature,” the statement said.

Christopher Wylie, co-founder of the firm, has disclosed the details in the tweet about the UK firm having connection with India. Mr Wylie wrote that the firm SCL was asked to provide electoral research and strategy for the 2010 Bihar assembly election for the JD(U).

The whistle-blower also testified the same before the parliament in Britain earlier in this week, and said that India’s National Congress too was involved with company as a client and that SCL and Cambridge Analytica work in India and have offices there. “This is what modern colonialism looks like,” he commented.

Mr Wylie also posted several pictures along with the post and said that the company SCL has got a data base of more than 600 districts and seven lakh villages and the whole data is constantly updated. Apart from that, the firm also worked on opinion polls for a party in India in 2003 elections for the state of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The Congress and BJP have alleged each other, after it surfaced that Cambridge Analytica could have used illegal data to influence polls in India.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has alleged that the Congress Party used Cambridge Analytica during Gujarat election last year. “This company is known for aggressive, fake, news, below standard campaign. Do I need to record before you the language of Rahul Gandhi, Gabbar Singh Tax and the whole social media campaign? Therefore the footprint of the DNA of this company was evident in Gujarat,” Mr Prasad had told news reporters.

The minister also accused Congress Party of planning to use Cambridge Analytica Data Analytical firm for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and boost its President Rahul Gandhi’s profile.
