Indian textbooks have been making news for all the wrong reasons lately. Our education system is so badly disturbed that the knowledge it gives through books is unjustified. As books are like the Bible for a child, they must not contain vague information that can falsely educate them.
Yes, we are living in a strange world that a textbook that’s supposed to fill our minds with knowledge and make us capable of understanding the difference between correct and incorrect. But surprisingly, here is an incident where you will be shocked to know what this book is teaching kids!
As we all know Kids do not really discriminate from a young age, really. Remember back when we were kids and we had friends regardless of their physical appearance, color or religion?
We don’t make friends based on any eligibility criteria but as we grow and become acquainted with the world which is divided into caste, color, creed and religion, we also start making friends based on the criteria which we consider suitable for us. It happens due to a lot of factors. Advertisements, movies and fashion magazines are the usual culprits.
But who could have guessed that a CBSE physical education textbook also tells students about the measurement of the best figure which is 36-24-36; so in a manner, these kids are getting ready to body shame those who don’t have the best figure.
ThIs CBSE book – the Health and Physical Education by Dr. VK Sharma for12th standard says “36-24-36 shape of females is considered the best” pic.twitter.com/l4iIvBKj2j

And they did not just stop there. They further added disgusting that why women ‘are not able to run properly.’
“The bones of hips of females are wider. Knees are slightly apart. Due to this shape females are not able to run properly.”
Well, it doesn’t end here and the book goes on to enlighten kids about the best body shape for a man which is “V” shape.
This is openly an attempt to implicate immorality in young adolescents and curb them to indecency at the worst level, disgraceful. And Twitter ferociously reacted over the matter and here are few selected tweets:
Utterly absurd & ridiculous:
this is preposterous.Cosmopolitan propagating this I undrstnd but who in their right mind wud want kids to learn this in skool

Twitterati didn’t fail to highlight other lines written by the writer & took a dig at him:
Well-said!

— Ranjini Menon (@Ranjinimenon) April 12, 2017

Hope the writer learns a lesson after this:
And the textbook also says that females can’t be a good athlete…… https://t.co/tu70bKisbj

And this is not the first time a textbook has screwed up so badly. Remember the racist picture in a textbook where a dark woman is tagged as ugly and a fair woman is tagged as beautiful.
This is the reason our youth turns out with unrealistic body expectations and not to mention racists.
Well, what do you say when such type of education is imparted from a text book of an education board? Let us know your views in the comments section below.
