CCTV Footage: Bengaluru Woman Being Molested & Assaulted On New Year Eve

The New Year celebrations in Bengaluru turned out to be a nightmare for the women. A throng of men emerged on the MG Road and Brigade Road, mobbing the revelers and ‘mass molesting’ women in the street on 31st night.

Here is a shocking CCTV footage of a young woman being groped and molested in a deserted lane of Kammanahalli area in East Bengaluru. Two bike-borne assailants have come to light, the city’s newly appointed Commissioner of Police Praveen Sood said.

The video footage was recorded by a camera installed at a house off Kammanahalli 5th Main Road in east Bengaluru around 2.30 am Sunday. In the video, a woman is seen walking towards her house around 2:40 AM and is about 50 meters away from her residence when two bike-borne men surround her.

Before she could even comprehend what was happening, one of the men gets down from the bike and heads towards her and forcibly hugs her. He then goes on to kiss her forcibly and even as the victim tries to free herself from the grip of the attacker. The man then drags her towards the bike as the victim punches the attacker. Two-three other men are seen standing at the end of the lane but don’t make any attempt to help the victim. After some time as she refuses to stop struggling, the men hurl her on the road and ride away.

The incident came to light when the victim, along with her friends, approached the owner of the house where CCTV was installed and requested to share the CCTV footage for verification.

The city’s newly appointed Commissioner of Police Praveen Sood through a series of tweets on Tuesday night said his team has found “credible evidence” of molestation, attempt to robbery and have registered an FIR.

Even Karnataka Home Minister, G Parameshwara, dismissing complaints about mass molestation during New Year’s Eve celebrations at MG Road and Brigade Road as something “that happens in crowded places” and stoked a controversy by blaming the youths’ “western ways” for the incidents.
