Apollo Hospitals issues another health bulletin on Jayalalithaa’s critical condition. She continues to be on life-support, the official bulletin says.

Despite the hospital’s bulletin statements, sources claim that the prominent political personality and former actress died this early morning.
Jayalalithaa was under treatment since September 22 at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, she suffered a cardiac arrest Sunday evening, the hospital bulletin notified.
“She is being treated and monitored by a team of experts including cardiologists, pulmonologists, and critical care specialists,” the bulletin read.
Further, the hospital officials tweeted: “She is on extracorporeal membrane heart assist device and is being treated by a team of expert doctors and critical care specialists. Dr. Richard Beale from London has also been consulted and he has concurred with the line of treatment by our cardiologists & pulmonologists.”

Soon after knowing her cardiac arrest, information was passed to the higher officials and minister, a senior official said “Five ministers, including Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, were already in Chennai. All other ministers who had gone to the districts over the weekend also started returning to Chennai. Governor Rao, who was attending the Navy Day function in Mumbai, boarded a flight to Chennai.”
Soon after the news reached media, thousands of people alarmed, supporters started gathering around Greams Road where the hospital is located they started prayers for Jayalalithaa’s quick recovery, the situation was out of control and 1000 police personnel were deployed on duty outside the hospital around midnight, with police resorting to a mild lathi-charge to control the crowd.

Following the instant chaos and unrest, State Home officials called for calm, saying the hospital had put out a bulletin.
Since her admittance into the hospital on September 22, Jayalalithaa was being attended to by a team of 18 senior doctors including intensivists, respiratory physicians and cardiologists besides specialists flown from the AIIMS in New Delhi and London.
Meanwhile, a senior doctor familiar with her case, Jayalalithaa’s condition had been improving slowly. “She was in very bad shape when she was hospitalized. In the last four weeks, there was remarkable progress, rare for an acute diabetic with lung and heart problems. So this cardiac arrest is definitely a setback. But she is being provided the best treatment and is being attended to by all specialists,” the doctor said.
Hours before the issuance of the bulletin, the AIADMK claimed that the Chief Minister would return home “soon” as she had “completely recovered”.
Party spokesperson, C Ponnaiyan told reporters “The AIIMS doctors visited the hospital yesterday and after examining her health, they shared the good news with us that Amma has completely recovered.”
Contrary to the representatives’ statements, a popular news channel announced that the chief minister is dead. Following this tragic news, condolence messages have been pouring out from political leaders and celebrities.
Public at large on the social media expressing their sorrow at what has transpired. The huge crowds gathered at the Apollo Hospitals are crying ceaselessly ever since the final announcement was made.
A huge number of women had gathered at the hospital and they broke down when news of the tragedy was conveyed to them. Police have put up barricades in the vicinity and security presence is heavy not just on arterial roads near the hospital, but across all areas in the state seen as sensitive.
This saddened news alarmed the whole Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, meanwhile, the security measures were taken in advance. Additional personnel were called.

In Apollo Hospitals’ latest press release, it is reported that Jayalalithaa continues to be critical and is on ECMO and other life support systems, besides being treated and closely monitored by a team of experts.
