The Himachal Pradesh government has taken a step ahead and banned the plastic polythene in the state. Which is good for environment in and around Himachal Pradesh.
Himachal pradesh was the first state in the country to ban plastic and polythene carry bags in 2009.
The local traders of Shimla welcomed the Himachal Pradesh governments decision of banning the use and sale of plastic bags around the state.
The Governor of Himachal Pradesh Acharya Devvrat, banned the use of Thermocol cutlery including cups, plates, glasses, and spoons or any other item in the state to save the environment from degradation.
After plastic was banned the local traders had started using paper cups and plates. the outer parts of the state were using thermocol but not in the main state area.
Its good to use paper plates and cups as they are bio-degradable. Where as the local retailers and stockiest have been given three months to clear the available stock with them by “DC Rana” director of environment government of Himachal Pradesh.
As the manufacturers and shopkeepers have been given three months to complete the stock of plastic bags and plates etc… there will be no financial loss to them.
After the given time period if the retailer or shop owner found to be using plastic bags and anything which was banned a fine of Rs. 500 to Rs. 25,000 will be incurred. If anyone found throwing thermocol cutlery they will be penalized. In 2011 High Court also banned the single use of plastic plates, packed materials, cups and glasses but it was challenged in apex court of the country.
The Uttar Pradesh government also taking measures to ban plastic bags which is going to implement in the state from July 15. Earlier Maharastra government had issued circular about banning plastic bags and materials like spoons, bottles and thermocol items. Even Telangana government also instructed municipal bodies across the state against the use of plastic.
