Congress Accuses Centre Of Playing With The State Of Jammu And Kashmir And Its People

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday hit out at the center over the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir by alleging that the present NDA government was playing with the “crown of India” and treating the general masses of the state like “guinea pigs”.

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi alleged that it has experienced a marked quantitative increase in violations of the ceasefire, civilian killings, deaths of security personnel and terror incidents in the state of Jammu and Kashmir since the BJP government came to power at the center in the state.

He went on to blame the government for the current deteriorating security situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and cited the kidnapping and killing of three policemen and the reported resignations in the state by police personnel.

On Friday, the Home Ministry said that no policemen have given his resignation so far in the state after the killing of the three police personnel by Hizbul Mujahideen terror group and called all such reports as “false propaganda” by some “mischievous” elements.

“There is a quantitative and qualitative change. The quantitative change is reflected in any of the four parameters — ceasefire violations, death of security personnel, civilian deaths, terror incidents,” Mr Singhvi said.

He said that the fact about 414 jawans dying after the BJP came to power at the center was shocking.

Mr Singhvi said, “256 civilians have died. As I have said on all parameters there is 100, 200, 300 per cent increase. In the case of ceasefire violations, there is a 500 per cent increase.”

He claimed that the UPA government at the center at that time brought the state and all its people into the mainstream, but the present NDA government converted the same mainstream into “midstream”.

Along with that, Mr. Singhvi also accused that the government was treating the state of Jammu and Kashmir as if its a “laboratory experiment” and all its people like “guinea pigs”.

“The government has betrayed each and every part of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,” the Congress leader said.

He referred to all kinds of violence and deteriorating security situation in the state and said that the government was silent in all these incidents.

Mr. Singhvi expressed concern over the mutilations incidents and said that such reports are on the rise since 2016 and also cited the recent killing of a jawan from BSF who was found with his throat slit.

He criticized the government over its decision to reach an agreement for the meeting between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

However, due to the incidents of “brutal” killing of three policemen in Jammu and Kashmir, India called off the proposed meeting. It also cited the glorifying of Kashmiri terrorist Burhan Wani as a reason for the meeting being canceled.

Mr. Singhvi criticized the policy of the government for Pakistan.

“It is knee-jerk, it is episodic, it is momentary, it is transient, it depends on the mood of the moment. This government has no moral right to continue. The government is playing with crown, with the pride of India,” he said.
