Congress Aims To Expose Modi Government Through Month-Long Countrywide Agitation Campaign

New Delhi: The Congress today resolved to start a month long across the country protest campaign to expose the government at the centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of corruption and scams like Rafale fighter jet deal. The party had already sought for an investigation by a joint parliamentary committee (JPC).

The decision of the plan to launch the agitation was taken during a meeting held in the presence of top Congress leaders which included party general secretaries and party head from different states as well as state unit chiefs. The meet was chaired by the party chief Rahul Gandhi.

“It was decided that corruption, scams of the Modi government particularly the Rafale scam will be taken to people of India. In the next 30 days, Congress workers will do district and state level demonstrations. We will ensure a fair probe, independent probe, a JPC is constituted immediately. We will not be deterred and pushed back,” party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters in New Delhi.

In the meeting, the spokesperson said, that the party discussed the issue of Rafale deal in a very detailed way and alleged that the government cost the exchequer Rs. 41,000 crore. The contract, as per his claim, was given away to a company belonging to the friend of the Prime Minister with net worth of Rs. 30,000 crore under the deal resulting in snatching it away from state owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

He also informed the media that during the meeting the party sought for the declaration of the Kerala floods as a “national calamity” and demanded the Prime Minister not to play politics in such matters.

He further went on to claim that the central government has provided a meagre Rs. 100 crore relief to the Kerala government despite the fact that there had been a huge loss of life and damage to the properties up to the extent of Rs. 2,000 – 3,000 crore due to the ongoing floods.

“We believe Modiji should stop discriminating in the matters of flood relief between BJP and non-BJP governments. Only mere Rs. 100 crore has bene given to Kerala while there is devastation.

“It’s time the PM rises above political partisan game and come forward as a nation to help the people of Kerala and Karnataka and declare Kerala floods as a national calamity,” he said.

He went on to say that different states with Congress being in power there, had extended there contribution to the relief funds while each and every party MPs, MLAs and MLCs are ready to donate their total one-month’s salary for the current relief measures.

The government of Punjab and Karnataka too have extended relief fund up to Rs. 10 crore each while the government of Puducherry government has contributed Rs. One crore, he said.

The deadly floods have till now claimed 194 in the state of Kerala since August 8. More than 3.14 lakh people have been affected and were moved to relief camps.
