Congress Plenary Session: Sonia Accuses Modi Govt Of ‘Power-Drunk’, Terms Pre-election Pledges As ‘Dramebaazi’

New Delhi: During the Congress Plenary Session on Saturday, Sonia Gandhi accused the ruling government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being in condition of ‘power-drunk’ and she termed all the pre-poll promises of combating corruption related issues and to ensure inclusive development were nothing but ‘dramebaazi’.

The Session which is Congress Party’s 84th, witnessed Ms Gandhi’s speech as she went on accusing the Modi-led government of using ‘all tricks in the trade’ to completely remove Congress and asserted that the party will never bow down to such powers.

She encouraged Congress workers to give full fledged support to newly assigned party chief Rahul Gandhi and also to be ready to give any kind of sacrifice to further strengthen the organisation.

Sonia Gandhi also urged the party workers to free the nation of “discrimination, vendetta politics and arrogance”.

“We are exposing Modi and his colleagues’ false claims, frauds and corruption with proof.”

“People have now understood that the 2014 promises of ‘sab ka saath, sab ka vikas’ and ‘na khaoonga, na khaane doonga’ and his ‘Mann ki Baat’ on radio are only ‘dramebaazi’ (theatrics) and a trick to grab votes and electoral power,” she said, referring to promises made by Modi of inclusive development and corruption-free governance.

She even claimed that the Congress was in a fight and struggle against “tyrannical” government and the general public have begun to realise about the promises made by the BJP in 2014 were nothing but hollow.

“In the last four years, this arrogant and power-drunk government has left no stone unturned to destroy the Congress. They have used every trick in the trade, but Congress has neither succumbed before this arrogance of power nor will it succumb in future,” she said.

The UPA chairperson also said the party is waging a war against the Modi government’s “dictatorial” ways, “disregard” for the Constitution, “denigration” of Parliament and their “divisive ideology”, besides “political vendatta and conspiracies like intimidating the media”.

She remembered that how the Congress had changed its overall plan of going alone as per the ‘Panchmarhi Declaration’ in 1998 to get alignment with parties during the Shimla Declaration in 2003 and as a result was successfull in forming a government in many states and as well as at the Centre in 2004 and 2009.

“Soon after the formation of government under Manmohan Singh, they formulated many welfare schemes which fuelled the economy to grow faster during that time”, Sonia claimed.

“Under the leadership of former prime minister Manmohan Singh, the economy of this country flourished. Our government formed policies which lifted millions of people from poverty. And today, the Modi government is weakening these policies,” she further said.

The Congress leader claimed that the party is going to “expose the frauds of the Modi government”.

The party, she said, was making all efforts to win back the trust of the people and would work with like-minded parties to oust the BJP.
