Do you know how much the government spends on printing a one-rupee note? The Security Printing and Minting Corporation of Indian Limited (SPMCIL) told, the cost of printing one rupee note, which was recently re-introduced after a gap of 20 years, is Rs 0.84. Incidentally, it is only ₹1 notes that are issued by the government of India, all other currency denominations are issued by the RBI.
The new one rupee note will have the signature of the Finance Secretary. Apart from the one rupee note, all other paper currency (₹2, ₹5, ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹500 and ₹1,000) have the signature of the RBI Governor.
Printing of one rupee note was stopped in November 1994, mainly due to higher cost. In 1995, printing of two and five rupee notes too were discontinued. Since then, only coins have been issued for these denominations.
