A Delhi Cop Allegedly Groping A Female Student At A Protest, Twitter Calls For His Suspension

On Sunday, hundreds of JNU students protested against the lack of investigation by the Delhi police on the 23-day disappearance of their classmate Najeeb Ahmed. In this protest, a picture of a cop manhandling a student sparked outrage on the social media.

According to reports, the cops detained more than 200 students, as well as other protesters, including Ahmed’s mother and sister. The viral photo is a Delhi cop trying to quell the protest, and allegedly groping a JNU student while doing so. Hundreds of people began sharing the screenshot of the photo.

People immediately called for the cop’s suspension.

However, the police denied the claims of groping.

“I have received a complaint from a girl regarding alleged groping and physical abuse by a police officer during a peaceful protest for missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed at India Gate. A picture which clearly shows a policeman groping her was displayed today in the newspaper,” DCW chief Swati Maliwal said in the letter sent to Delhi Police commissioner Alok Verma.

“The commission wants to know the reasons for non-deployment of female officers at the time of the incident with the girl complainant. What is the name and designation of the male officer visible in the newspaper clipping who is seen groping the female complainant,” the notice said.
