DMK Chief M Karunanidhi Lodged In ICU In Chennai Hospital, Now Stable

Chennai: DMK Top Brass M Karunanidhi, who was in news for being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection, was recently shifted to a private hospital from his residence in Chennai early today due to dip in blood pressure and is said to be stable now according to the authorities of the hospital.

The leader aged about 94 years as of now was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Kauvery Hospital around 1:30 am.

As per the medical bulletin issued at around 8 pm said “former Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s health condition continues to remain stable with ongoing active medical support. He is continuously being monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors in the ICU.”

The hospital, when inquired earlier to the bulletin, had said that he was admitted after his blood pressure had dropped.

“His blood pressure has been stabilized with medical management and he continues to be monitored and treated by a panel of experts,” the 2.30 am bulletin said.

The family members of the nonagenarian discussed the treatment modalities with hospital authorities.

Several top DMK leaders, including party working president and Mr. Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin, and others such as Duraimurugan, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and former Union Minister A Raja were present at the hospital.

The leaders of the party DMK had also paid a visit to Mr. Karunanidhi’s house in Gopalapuram area before he was taken to the hospital.

The estranged son of Mr. Karunanidhi and former DMK leader MK Alagiri, who was expelled from the party by the DMK chief in January 2014 after a prolonged struggle for power with his younger brother MK Stalin also paid a visit to his father’s house and the hospital.

Governor of Tamil Nadu Purohit and Defence Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman visited the hospital and enquired about the health of Mr. Karunanidhi with hospital authorities, MK Stalin and other members of the DMK president’s family.

K Palaniswami, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, told reporters at Salem that the state government is eager to provide all possible medical assistance with readiness to the ailing Mr. Karunanidhi if needed. He had been a five-time chief minister of the state.

The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, wished a quick recovery for the DMK top brass by tweeting “Kalaignar M Karunanidhi is a born fighter. I am sure he will fight back and return fast to good health. Wish him a speedy recovery.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “My prayers for Sh Karunanidhi’s fast recovery.”

Health Minister of Tamil Nadu, C Vijayabaskar, too wished the DMK chief a speedy recovery.

After receiving the news about Mr. Karunanidhi getting admitted to the hospital, party cadre from various parts of the state of Tamil Nadu poured in there chanting “long live Thalaivar” (leader) and “menu via thalaiva,” (come back, leader).

Hours before Mr. Karunanidhi was taken to the hospital, MK Stalin, the son of the leader,  had said the former chief minister’s health was improving.
