Doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam, Kerala start Chemotherapy at woman who was wrongly diagnosed with Breast Cancer

A woman from Mavelikkara was brought to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam, Kerala after she felt a lump on her breast, and after some tests, the doctors concluded that it was breast cancer. Eventually they started Chemotherapy, but it turns out that they wrongly diagnosed her with cancer.

A probe has been launched, which is ordered by the government of Kerala.

KK Shailaja, the health minister of Kerala, has ordered a probe for the allegations that were made by the woman, who underwent chemotherapy at the hospital.

Officials said that the doctors started chemo on the basis of a report from the private lab.

According to the woman, she underwent the chemotherapy on in the hospital on February 28, 2019, after the doctors discovered a lump on her breast.

Samples were taken from her and were sent at the laboratory of the hospital and a private laboratory.

The doctors of the Oncology Department started chemotherapy immediately after they received the report from the private laboratory, which concluded that she has cancer.

But after the report from the hospital’s laboratory came in, it showed that her lump was non-cancerous.

The chemotherapy was stopped right away and the doctors of the Oncology department referred her back to the general surgery department where the lump on her breast was removed.

The samples that were taken from the woman were sent back for retests at the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cancer Centre, a private laboratory, and the hospital’s laboratory.

Reports from the laboratories confirmed that the lump on her breast was non-cancerous.

After some time, the woman brought the matter to the health minister of the State and shared the side-effects she faced due to the wrong diagnosis of the hospital.

KK Shailaja, the health minister of Kerala, has asked the head of the hospital to launch a probe for the said incident.

The health minister has also asked the doctors to submit a report about the incident.
