Now, researchers claimed that using copper utensils for such is not good for health, especially, the cocktails when taken in copper mugs and glasses. Well, that’s a chemical process which is absolutely harmful to our human health. Iowa’s Alcoholic Beverages Division has warned people about this, added that the copper and its alloys possess some bad qualities.

As per these norms and codes, the state has adapted the Food and Drug Administration’s Moral Food Code which prohibits copper from coming in direct contact with foods that have a pH below 6.0. It is bad news for Moscow Mule fans, the Insta-friendly drink which is typically served in a trendy copper utensil.

At this place, popular cocktails that contain vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice and is often accompanied by a wedge of lime are served in copper mugs.

Coming to the facts, the average Mule has a pH well below 6.0 and is therefore deemed unsafe when consumed in this aesthetically pleasing manner. “High concentrations of copper are poisonous and have caused foodborne illness,” read the statement.

The code then mentioned: “When copper and copper alloy surfaces contact acidic foods, copper may be leached into the food.” Vomiting, stomach pains, confusion, drowsiness and fainting fits are the symptoms of poisoning, according to the NHS.
