on 12th 1865, NOKIA was established in Finland; they began their work on IT, communication and consumers electronics manufacturing.

Nokia’s growth

  • At first, Nokia purchased a company named “MOBIRA.”
  • In 1982 Nokia manufactured there First car phone (10 kg) named “Nokia Mobira senator.”
  • In 1984, Nokia manufactured its first transportable phone (5kg) “Nokia Mobira Talkman.

 

 

  • In 1987, Nokia manufactured its lightweight, transportable phone which was a hit ” Nokia Mobira Cityman.”
  • In 1991, Harri Holkeri PM of Finland became the first man on earth to make a GSM call on a Nokia phone
  • In 1992, Nokia 1011 was released, the market size of Nokia increased to 10x times
  • in 1994, Nokia 2100 was a huge hit which made its mark overall in the globe( expected sale 4lakh, whereas 2 million mobiles were soled)
  • In 1997-98 Nokia acquired 25% of the worlds market share. They began to grow there the market in developing countries like India, China, and Russia.

  • Nokia’s 1100 and 1110 models made Indian market monopoly to Nokia by acquiring 75% of market share.
  • In 2008 468.4 million handsets sold by Nokia.

Downfall of Nokia

  • in September 2010 Stephen Elop(“good man with bad thoughts”) became the new CEO of Nokia.
  • By that time iPhones ios and googles android was on top.
  • Nokia’s business was affected first in the USA and European market. Then the effect slowly coming to eastern countries like India, China, and Japan.
  • in India and China’s emerging market, Nokia faced shock from the Motorola and Samsung’s flipflop mobile phone’s which were new to people and sales was on the roar.
  • Nokia was only concentrating on hardware, but people are attracted towards software advanced devices.
  • The world of mobiles is running with ios and android where Nokia is not leaving Symbian OS.
  • Nokia thereafter continuously firing employees in and around Finland.
  •  Nokia new CEO was good by profession but bad through thoughts on Nokia company. He has a plan before joining Nokia to sell Nokia to Microsoft. He executed his plan very easily.
  • So he planned and took Nokia to join Microsoft but not android of Google and Nokia mobiles with windows OS was a flop idea as Microsoft OS doesn’t have many apps to compete with ios and Android ecosystem.
