A daily wage labourer at a brick kiln in UP who alleged that she was gang raped, consumed poison outside the Bhudana police station in Muzaffarnagar on Wednesday (July 1, 2015) while blaming the police for not arresting the accused in the case. The woman was later admitted in a hospital, where her condition is stated to be stable.

Going in to the details, Bhudhana Station House Officer Kamal Singh Yadav said that the woman’s father, sister and brother are currently lodged in Muzaffarnagar District Jail for the murder of a person, who was shot dead outside his house on March 27. The three were arrested on the basis of statements given by the dead person’s brother and two uncles, who claimed to have witnessed the murder.

Later on June 18, the woman had lodged a rape case against the deceased’s brother and two uncles, alleging that they had raped her in her house on June 17, according to Budhana Circle Officer Satya Prakash Sharma.

“On Wednesday, we picked up a youth, who is an acquaintance of the woman, for querying. In the meantime, the woman reached the police station and alleged that the police were harassing an innocent person and not arresting the accused,” sharma said.

The victim and therefore the suspect, each belong to the Dalit community. “We are looking into the matter and considering to lodge a case against the woman on charges of attempt to commit suicide,” Muzaffarnagar SSP K B Singh said.

“The murder was fallout of an enmity between the two families. The woman later got a rape case lodged against the three witnesses. The medical examination of the woman has not confirmed rape. Her statement before the magistrate has been recorded,” Station House Officer Kamal Singh Yadav said.
