Panaji: The Goa state cabinet meeting with ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in Delhi based hospital was dubbed by the Congress in Goa today as a mere “political drama” being performed to show that the BJP-led government exists and is functioning.

The Chief Minister of Goa, 62, who is currently being treated for a pancreatic ailment in New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), held meetings with the party leaders today. He also talked to his coalition allies to discuss the political scenario to ensure his government functions normally.

As per the statement of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar, the chief minister meeting his cabinet ministers in New Delhi was to portray that the government is functioning.

Manohar Parrikar, along with his meetings with ministers from allies, also held had talks with members of the Goa BJP Core Committee.

“The Parrikar-led government is facing criticism from all the quarters, including their own party men, for failing to deliver. The continued presence of CM in Delhi has crippled the state administration without alternate arrangements,” he said.

Since over nine months, the entire governance in Goa is almost in a virtual pause mode, said Mr. Chodankar.

He also said that the meetings being held by the chief minister in New Delhi with his cabinet ministers was an unfortunate thing.

“What is painful is that there is no certainty as till when such exercise of Delhi visit will continue and the people of Goa will continue to suffer,” he added.

Mr. Chodankar found this opportunity to express the Congress’ view that it still feels Governor Mridula Sinha should listen to the “voice of the people of Goa and opposition parties and allow us to prove our numbers on the floor of the House”.

Among the leaders who met Mr. Parrikar in New Delhi hospital were Ministers Vijay Sardesai (Goa Foward Party), Sudin Dhavalikar (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), Rohan Khaunte and Govind Gawade (both Independent MLAs). BJP ministers Vishwajit Rane and Nilesh Cabral – also met the Chief Minister during the meeting.

The Parrikar-led government has a support of a total 23 MLAs from the 40-member state assembly.

Those supporting him comprise 14 BJP MLAs, from which three are from the Goa Forward party and MGP along with three Independents.

The Congress, which is playing the main opposition role in the Goa assembly, is the single largest party after BJP having of 16 MLAs.
