In a recent study conducted by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), it was concluded that India’s Capital City New Delhi has worst working conditions for women. On the other hand, Sikkim state is named as the nest working environment for women. New Delhi was given 8.5 points and Sikkim 40 points.
Factors Considered:
CSIS has considered few factors in the study to conclude the best Indian states for working women. Here are the factors:
1. Legal restrictions imposed on women’s working hours in different sectors.
2. Responses to the criminal justice system.
3. Crimes like Eve-teasing and Sexual harassment.
4. The percentage of working women.
5. The policies and incentives offered by states for their women entrepreneurs.
According to the study, the state of Sikkim topped the list as it is providing the high percentage of working women, less restriction on the working hours, and quick responses when it comes to giving the justice for crimes against working women.
Ranks of Other States:
Sikkim (40), Telangana (28.5), Pondicherry (25.6), Karnataka (24.7), Himachal Pradesh (24.2), Andhra Pradesh (24.0), Kerala (22.2), Maharashtra (21.4), Tamil Nadu (21.1), Chhattisgarh (21.1) and New Delhi (8.5).
The female population in India is around 48%. But only 24% of Indian women are working which is lowest in the world. Sikkim State is doing a great job when it comes to women providing the better-working environment, whereas New Delhi is incapable of doing the same.
