For all those who don’t know what Kadaknath is, it is an Indian breed of chicken which is quite famous for its medicinal properties. This breed is popularly known as “Kali Masi” meaning fowl with black flesh. The color of the flesh is black in color due to deposition of melanin pigments. From head to toe, the bird is completely black and it is regarded as premium meat and costs approximately thrice than the local broiler meat.
Seeing the increase in demand for Kadaknath’s black meat Madhya Pradesh started a new initiative and launched a new app called “MP Kadaknath” for ordering the chicken meat from anywhere and the availability of the meat can also be seen. The main objective of the app is to connect poultries that breed this premium meat to people.
This app might provide marketing opportunities to 430 members of 21 societies but more people could be added in the coming days. Talking about the app, Minister of State for Cooperatives Vishwas Sarang said,
“Through this app, people can place orders for Kadaknath chicken from anywhere. Availability of Kadaknath chickens with the cooperative societies can also be seen on this app.”
To all the health freaks out there who want to control their diet but couldn’t do it, here is the chance for you as Kadaknath’s meat is not only tasty but also healthy as it contains a very minute amount of fat ranging from 0.73-1.03% which is very low considering 13-25% in other breeds meat. He also spoke about the nutritional values of the meat stating that,
“A Kadaknath chicken contains 25-27 percent of protein in comparison with other breeds of chickens that contain 18 percent protein. This breed is also known for its high iron content. The fat and cholesterol content is lower compared with other chicken,”
This bird’s meat is obviously a hit among urban foodies and health freaks. Some of the hotels around the country have already included the Kadaknath’s meat in their menu. Most of the people are excited to try the bird at least once.
Recently a fight broke out between Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh in terms of the GI tag of the bird which is used for promotion as well as the breed purity conservation. Ultimately Madhya Pradesh won it as it applied 6 years prior to Chattisgarh’s application.
