The Lakme Fashion Week 2016 started on Wednesday. Archana Rao, Anand Kabra and Gaurang Shah to Anushree and Jayanti Reddy, the designers from Hyderabad are getting a lot of attention.
Archana’s Frou-Frou label was a treat to the eyes with her “A Petticoat” collection, which was inspired by a fictional character named Lolita, gave an easy going vibe at Lakmé Fashion Week. Meanwhile Anand Kabra’s show lived up to the promise of grace.
Kabra, who prefers not to showcase in the main show area, stuck to the pattern as he transformed the level six parking space at the sprawling St. Regis Hotel into a grand venue for his creations to unfold. His line of party and bridal wear was a mélange of traditional ensembles that displayed the designer’s fascination for Indian embroideries such as gota, aina, resham, zar and pitta.
The colour palette was beige, maroon, midnight blue and gold and the silhouettes that glided through comprised lehengas, shararas, floor-length anarkalis, jackets and saris. There was also a traditional rendition of the jumpsuit that stood out, in midnight blue teamed with a gold-embroidered jacket.
With Bollywood spectaculars like KKHH and K3G to his credit, top fashion designer Manish Malhotra has become an expert at costuming India’s boldest and most beautiful. His art may embody pure Bollywood glamour, but his taste in music reaches far beyond Tinseltown’s borders. Asha Bhosle, R.D. Burman and Coldplay are some of the artists who light his creative fire.
