‘I Told Papa To Get Me Passed But He Made Me Topper’ Says Bihar Topper Ruby Rai

Bihar’s controversial topper in Class 12 examinations for the Humanities stream this year, Ruby Rai is in news again. After the news of her one line essay on Hindu saint Tulsidas, here’s now her explanation for the whole fiasco.

Ruby Rai, a student of Vishnu Rai College, appeared before the expert committee constituted by the board to answer some basic questions. However, she was taken into custody by Patna Police’s Special Investigation team soon after she failed the re-test.

She told her interrogators that she never wanted to top the exams. Instead, she wanted to just pass and had only asked her father to arrange for her to secure enough marks so that she could pass.

“Maine to Papa se kaha tha pass karwa dijiye, unhone ne to top hi karwa diya,” the Indian Express quoted Ruby as saying. Loosely translated, her assertion was, “I had only asked Papa to get me passed but he went ahead and made me topper.”

Manu Maharaj, the Patna special SP who is heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the scam explained “The arts topper was very forthright in accepting that she did not deserve to be a topper. She had expected second division at best. She now blames her guardians and Vishnu Roy College principal, Bachcha Rai, for making her topper.”
