25 Indian Students Asked To Leave US University As They Did Not Meet The Admission Standards

Study in the USA is every Graduate’s dream in India. Students work hard to get admissions and join the Universities in the US. But since few months, the situation of the Indian students in the US is not well. Students are not being allowed to join the Universities as they are not meeting the admission standards of the varsity.

In a recent incident, at least 25 Indian students of Western Kentucky University have been asked to return to India or find placement in other schools. They belong to the first semester of computer sciences programme. According to the University, the students did not meet the admission standards of the varsity and were asked to leave the campus and search for other University.

60 Indian students were enrolled for the programme in January this year and the university was said to have used international recruiters to enrol them. James Gary, the chairman of Western Kentucky’s computer science programme, said 40 students did not meet the requirements of the admissions, even though they were offered remedial help by the university.

He added “permitting the students to continue in the programme would be throwing good money after bad. They were even not able to write programmes. If they come out of here without the ability to write programmes, that’s embarrassing to my department.” The University recruited the students after conducting a campaign in India offering spot admissions and tuition fee discounts.

Indian Student Association Chairman at Western Kentucky University, Aditya Sharma, a graduate student in public health administration, has expressed his concern for the students “I definitely feel bad for these students. They’ve come so far. They’ve invested money into it. They could not meet their GPA (grade point average), so the university had to take this decision.”
