Indigo Plane Tyre Burst At Hyderabad Airport Creates Panic Among Passengers, Everyone Safe

Hyderabad: An Indigo flight tyre burst created ripples of tense moments among the passengers at Hyderabad International Airport. The incident occurred when the flight Indigo was in the process of landing at the Hyderabad Airport around 11.25 pm, on Wednesday night. All passengers were safe and no one got hurt due to the incident. The Indigo flight was its way to Hyderabad from Tirupati.

Indigo issued a statement in which it said, “Flight 6E 7117 operated by an ATR (aircraft) from Tirupati to Hyderabad suffered a tyre burst while landing at Hyderabad Airport. The 72 passengers and one infant and four crew members are safe.”

A ready fire-fighting team rushed to the spot on the airport where the aircraft suffered the incident as the ground staff noticed sparks soon after the touchdown. The pilot announced inside the aircraft that all passengers must remain calm and remain in their seats and assured them that there is nothing serious to worry about, said some passengers.

As the Indigo Aircraft was stuck on the runway, a couple of flights had to be diverted to Bengaluru and Chennai. The runway was shut down for a few hours after the incident.

Famous actor and YSR Congress lawmaker Roja was present on board the Indigo flight.

In a similar way, another Indigo flight 6E-7204 en route Vijayawada from Bengaluru, skidded off the runway while it was landing, says news agencies.

IndiGo had recently started inducting ATR planes in its fleet since last November. The airline is already facing headwind with its P&W engines on its Neo planes, of which a total 11 were grounded by the regulator around two weeks ago.

Due to some technical snag in a brand new P&W engine-powered ATR aircraft of IndiGo’s maiden flight from Toulouse to New Delhi had to be grounded and had to return to the French facility for repair on March 16. The airline in a statement said, “IndiGo ATR 72-600 while being ferried from Toulouse to India, with no revenue passengers on board, returned to Toulouse for technical reasons. The aircraft will conduct checks and take actions as required as is the usual practice while delivering new airplanes.”

Indigo is a low-cost airline based in India with headquarters in Gurgaon, Haryana. In terms of passengers and fleet size, it is considered to be the largest airline in India. As per the report the total share of the airline in the market stands at 39.9% as on February 2018.

The airline was founded by the Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal as a private company. It started its operations in the year 2006 and became the largest carrier in passenger market share in 2012 and went public in November 2015.
