India’s fastest train, Gatimaan Express will start operating between Delhi and Agra from March 2016. Arun Saxena, the General Manager of North Central Railway claimed that Gatimaan Express is all set to go on rails. Earlier, it was a tough task for everyone to travel to Agra from Delhi. Keeping this in mind, the Government of India introduced the advent of high-tech trains to visit the wonder world Agra. This results in a smooth way of travelling and doesn’t seem taxing anymore.
By coming up with the Gatimaan Express, a semi-high speed train that will run between New Delhi and Agra, the Indian Railways has added another feather to its cap. Here are few facts that you should know about this train.
1. Speed:

When they made speed tests, it clocked a maximum of 160+ km/hr. The speed of Gatimaan Express is 160 km/hr. This train will be the fastest train in India.
2. Specs:
The engine of Gatimaan Express is powered by 5,400 Horse Power electric locomotive. It means like 5,400 horses pulling the train. The train will have 12 ultra modern coaches.
3. Duration of Journey:
The current fastest train in India is Bhopal Shatabdi Express. The distance between Delhi and Agra Cantt Station is 195 km and It takes 2 hours 6 minutes of journey time. Gatimaan Express breaks the record of current fastest train Shatabdi Express and it will do this in 1 hour 45 minutes, saving 15 minutes.
4. Cost of the train:
Each coach costs a staggering Rs 2.5 crore. (12 X 2.5 crores = 30 crores).
5. Fare:
One side fare of AC chair car has been fixed at Rs. 690 while a passenger will be charged Rs. 1,365 for the executive class in Gatimaan Express. In Shatabadi Express, a passenger is required to pay Rs. 540 for chair car, and Rs. 1,040 for executive class.
6. System Upgraded:
To achieve the speed of magic number 160 km/hr, certain tracks on the Delhi-Agra route have been fenced off and the signaling system has been upgraded.
7. New Features:
Gatimaan Express is equipped with additional security features such as automatic fire alarm, emergency braking system, passenger information system, sliding doors. These coaches are featured with a lot of tech shit.
8. Satellite Television:
8-inch LCDs stuck to the back of every seat will keep you entertained. Later, this televisions will broadcast live-feed.
9.Well Trained Pilots Will have Psychological and Medical Examinations:
Railway officials will conduct a psychological and medical examination to the selected top loco pilots to ensure Gatiman Express becomes the safest and fastest mode of travel in the country. The tests done by Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO), will assess loco pilots’ ability to maintain their focus and decision-making under stress.
10. Scheduled Timings as of now:
The train is expected to start from New Delhi at 8 am and reach Agra by 9.45 am. On the return journey, the train will start from Agra at 5.30 pm and reach Delhi at 7.15 pm.
As per various reports, after Delhi-Agra corridor, Gatimaan Express will soon be launched in these routes: Chandigarh-New Delhi; Kanpur-New Delhi; Hyderabad-Chennai; Goa-Mumbai; Nagpur-Bilaspur and Nagpur-Secunderabad.
