While all eyes are on the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple also seems to be gearing up to launch the next-generation iPad Pro. Alleged photos of the Apple iPad Pro 2 with a 12.9-inch screen have surfaced in China, which is expected to go into production in September
The image was sent by an anonymous tipster to AppleInsider and is said to originate from within a Chinese supplier currently working on an iPad Pro model scheduled to go into production in late September.
The photos shared by Apple Insider only show the settings menu of the iPad Pro 2, and all the text is in Chinese. As per the leaked photos, the model number is MH1C2CD/F, which isn’t attributed to any current or past Apple device. But it does follow the numerical order of the iPad Pro lineup — ML0G2LL/A and ML3N2LL/A. The photos also show only 12GB as available storage, which means the tablet in the photos is a prototype that is being tested by Apple. On the software front, the tablet is running on the latest version of iOS 10 beta, which was released to developers earlier this month.

There are rumours to suggest that the processor to be included within the iPad Pro 2 will be the A10X, an upgraded A9X built on a smaller FinFET technology. If this is to be the case, the rumours would suggest that a 2016 release is increasingly unlikely.

Carry the advances of the 9.7in Pro across to the 12.9in model
An issue we’ve addressed several times in this article concerns the disappointment felt by a number of 12.9-inch iPad Pro owners when the cheaper and in many respects better 9.7-inch iPad Pro was launched six months later. So the first thing we’d ask for is consistency. To achieve this the larger Pro model needs to get:
- A 12-megapixel rear-facing camera (up from 8Mp)
- A 5Mp front-facing camera (up from 1.2Mp)
- 4K video recording
- Live Photos
- Display with True Tone and ‘wide colour’
- A 32GB cellular buying option
- A pink colour option
iPad Pro 2 release date & Price
The iPad Pro 2 wasn’t teased or even announced at WWDC 2016, which is what we expected given the previous announcements and release dates of the iPad Pro line.
But according to the new reports, it could be possible that Apple could unveil the iPad Pro 2 along with the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. The launch event is expected to take place in the week of September 12.
Prices for the 12.9-inch variant in India start from Rs 67,900, while the 9.7-inch iPad Pro is available in India with prices starting from Rs 49,900.
