ISRO To Get Help From Air Force For Mission ‘Gaganyaan’

Bengaluru: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will receive help from the Indian Air Force (IAF) to get the Mission ‘Gaganyaan’ accomplished. The ‘Gaganyaan’ is India’s quest to send astronauts to space. IAF Chief, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa said on Friday that the Bengaluru based Institute of Aerospace Medicine will help the organization in the selection process and training of astronauts.

As per the reports, future astronauts may be selected from a group of most elite IAF pilots who are reputed to be high-risk takers. These pilots are some of the most elite group who are trained under best training facilities that are at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine.

There is only one such centrifuge in the country is located at the institute that can simulate the high gravitation forces that an astronaut may face. Since ISRO has got no capability in human biology, so it may have to take help from the IAF institute.

“The Institute of Aerospace Medicine will help in the selection and training of personnel for the Indian manned space program,” Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa said.

“It is a useful programme. It is indigenous and it is good that we have in-house capabilities since we have done at least the selection of the first cosmonaut.

“You have to ask ISRO when they will do, but Institute of Aerospace Medicine is fully geared up to what they are supposed to do. Selection of the pilot will be done after the QR’s (or qualitative requirements) are finalised. ISRO chief has met me. I have assured him of our full support. It is fantastic to become the fourth nation in the world to have a manned space programme,” he added.

India has become the fourth in line for declaring the manned space mission to the moon with the countries like US, Russia, and China. It has already started all related work with the ISRO to declaring that will be ready within the time frame or earlier to it for the launch of its moon mission. Apart from that India has also set its eyes on Mars to explore it.

The ISRO is a state-owned agency which carries on all tasks related to India’s mission for space. The agency has been largely responsible for many space missions along with the launching of many satellites into its orbits.
