Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Leader allegedly raped a Ph. D Student after spiking her drink on Saturday. According to the reports, the accused was identified as Anmol Ratan an M. Phil Student and an activist of the AISA. The incident took place inside the boys’ hostel when the girl went to his room to copy movies on a pen drive.
The 28-year-old girl in her complaint mentioned that she had posted on Facebook that she wanted to watch a film called Sairat and asked if anyone had a copy. Later, she got a reply from Anmol who is also a student of JNU. He messaged her that he had a copy of the film.
On Saturday, he picked her at her hostel and took her to his hostel where he offered some drink. She didn’t know that the drink was a rape drug. Without knowing this, she drank and was later raped by Anmol in his room. When she awoke, she found the youth lying beside her and he threatened her to harm if she revealed the matter to anyone.
Later, she approached police station and registered a complaint against the youth. The police had lodged a FIR and her statement under CrPC Section 164 would be recorded. The complainant was taken for a medical examination and its report is awaited.
A statement issued by AISA read, “AISA takes serious note of the fact that Anmol Ratan, a leading activist of AISA, is facing a criminal complaint of sexual assault. He is henceforth expelled from the primary membership of AISA. AISA will reflect on and deal with this issue with all the firmness it deserves. AISA will be unflinching for the principles of gender justice even if it involves a leading member of the organisation. We stand by the complainant and will extend all possible support in her fight for justice.”
JNU registrar Pramod Kumar said that they have not yet received a formal complaint from the woman or the cops. “I was unaware of the incident but will look into it,” Kumar said.
