In a shocking move on January 15th, senior journalist Barkha Dutt quit NDTV after serving the channel for 21 long years. The 45-year-old who has been the face of media channel in India’s decision to separate from NDTV took everyone by surprise. As per reports, she is starting her own venture and wishes to concentrate on that.
This is second such announcement by a prominent journalist to leave a media channel after forming a long-term association. A few months ago, Times Now Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami left the channel to start his own venture, Republic.
Barkha Dutt is a big controversial figure in the field of journalism. She rose to prominence in journalism for her fearless coverage of Kargil war in 1999. She later became the face of NDTV’s program ‘We The People’. She has won many national and international awards, including the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor.
In series of tweets, she said that it had been a super ride at NDTV, but she hoped for a new beginning in 2017.

Later, NDTV in their official statement confirmed her resignation and wished her all the best for her future.
“In 1995, Barkha Dutt joined NDTV straight out of college, and now, after 21 wonderful years together, Barkha has requested that she would like to explore some new opportunities, pursue other interests and work on her own ventures. In all her years with NDTV, she has been hugely productive and has grown with the organisation, becoming an acclaimed, award-winning journalist of repute across India and many parts of the world. We are certain that Barkha will go from strength to strength and NDTV wishes her all the very best.”
In her latest Facebook post, Barkha wrote that she is proud of her association with NDTV and is excited about her new venture.
But the strong-willed Barkha Dutt faced trolls on Twitter even on her last day with NDTV. The Twitterati took potshots at her idea to “explore some new opportunities, and work on her own ventures.”
