Karnataka: 3 Killed In Dharwad Building Collapse, Officials Rescue 56 People

3 people were killed after a building in Dharwad collapsed in the northern part of Karnataka, rescuers have rescued 56 people so far.

56 people have been pulled out from the debris of the 4-storey building, the building was still under construction. It collapsed on Tuesday evening, the building is located at Kumareshwaranagar which is in the center of Dharwad.

Officials still believe that there are around 30 people trapped beneath the debris of the collapsed building.

10 ambulances, 5 fire trucks, and 3 teams from the NDRF (National Disaster Relief Force) were sent to the area. 2 teams of the NDRF are from Ghaziabad and 1 is from Bengaluru.

The National Disaster Relief Force said “Two more teams of #NDRF are being airlifted from Ghaziabad in addition to one team which was moved from Bangalore in connection with Dharwad building collapse.”

150 police officers, fire and emergency personnel were also deployed to the area.

Vinay Kulkarni, a former Minister in Karnataka and a Congress Leader said that the other partner of the building is his relative, he added that anyone held responsible for the incident will face consequences.

One witness said that the building was not capable of holding 4 floors, and there was an extra floor that was being added. He added, the material that was being used in the building was below average.

Most of the trapped people were laborers from North India who were working in placing tiles in the floors of the building.
