Know How TDP Played A Key Role In No-Confidence Motion Against Modi Govt

The no-confidence move against the BJP government by Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was a smart move for being the first to submit the notice of no confidence. The lesson learned from the last budget session helped the party greatly helped them.

The rule for serving notices in the Lower House says that any notice served after 10 am of any day will be considered for the next day. The TDP MPs in a first move sent their notices electronically and later sent letters to the Lok Sabha secretariat before noon on Wednesday. The TDP MPs who sent notices were Srinivas Kesineni, Thota Narsimham, and K Narayana Rao.

“We filed our notice through the Lok Sabha website and then gave the letters. Srinivas Kesineni gave it first, followed by me and Narayana Rao,” Narsimham said on Thursday.

Some officials also claimed about YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MPs to submitting of notice of no confidence before others during the budget session. As per the rules of the House, notices are processed on the basis of first-come-first and the first one among all notices is admitted over others.

Thus, in the same way of process, Srinivas Kesineni’s notice was accepted by the speaker of Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan this time and a debate was scheduled on Friday. “YRSCP and TDP both had filed notices during the budget session. But this time, we wanted to be the first,” said Narsimham.

According to a party functionary, the Congress Party would have had the opportunity to have its no-confidence motion served and accepted only if the notices of TDP would have failed due to lack of numbers. For a notice to be accepted, at least 50 MPs on the floor of the House have to support it. “At this time, there was no question of not supporting the TDP’s notice. We wanted to showcase Opposition unity,” said a senior Congress leader on the condition of anonymity.

The TDP party sent a delegation to meet Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday and sought the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) support for the no-confidence motion move the by them against the ruling NDA government in both the houses. The delegation had party leaders like YS Chowdary, TG Venkatesh, K Narasimha Rao.

So, in accordance to TDP’s request, the Kejriwal-led party issued its notice to Lok Sabha to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion. The directive was given by party leader of Aam Aadmi Party Bhagwant Mann.
