Nestle Maggi, which has been banned in India and its constituent states after being determined with the excess amounts of MSG and lead content in the packaged food packets. Although the recent announcement of Food Standards Agency of the United Kingdom has been up with astonishing facts adjudging that Indian Maggi doesn’t have any harmful contents and constituents. Hence, one could conclude that United Kingdom Food Standards Agency reports claim that Indian Maggi is safe to consume by all across the nation.

UK’s FSA Claims Indian Maggi Safe to Eat
United Kindom’s Food Standard Agency has tested over 900 packets of Indian Maggi which are sold in English country. Food Standard Agency (FSA) which received lab reports from India regarding the Nestle Maggi samples stating constituting high levels of lead and MSG. FSA of UK has been coordinating with the European Commission since then to check whether the Indian Maggi samples have high levels of lead as found in that in India.
UK’s FSA is a designated body and is similar to Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) of India. Official announcement of UK’s FSA claimed that “can confirm that results from testing samples of Maggi Noodles in the UK have all found that levels of lead in the product is well within EU permissible levels and would
not be a concern to consumers”.
FSA further said in the official statement said “Following an incident in India, where a sample of Maggi Noodles was reported to contain high levels of lead, the Food Standards Agency made the decision to test a selection of Maggi Noodles as a precaution. In India, this incident has resulted in a large-scale withdrawal of the product. Nestle informed the FSA that the only variety of Maggi Noodles they import into the UK from India is the ‘masala flavour.’ The FSA has now tested this flavour and others from the Maggi noodles range, as a precaution.

As well as tests carried out by local authorities, the FSA has also asked Nestle to provide it with test results from its own samples. All showed levels of lead to be well within European Union permissible levels. The total number of samples taken from Nestle, local authorities and port authorities were around 900 in total.”
United Kingdown Food Standard Agency stated earlier that authorities in India who tested the batch of noodles originally were found to contain undeclared Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) was not sold in the UK. Responding to the media after being asked about the test reports FSA stated that “Nestle UK have informed the FSA that they currently only import one flavour of ‘Maggi 2 Minute Noodles’ masala flavour) from India. The batch of noodles originally tested by the authorities in India was not sold in the UK. Other flavour, Maggi noodles are not imported from India but from other Nestle factories in other countries.”

Nestle Maggi further added its defense stated in an official announcement that “Trace amounts of lead are present in the atmosphere and in the soil around the world due to the use of fertilisers and pest control. The authorities have set firm limits to ensure that any lead present in a finished product is within recommended food safety levels and safe to consume. We regularly monitor all our raw materials for lead, including testing by accredited laboratories”.
